Upcycled Recycled_noback.png

Recycling is the process of converting "waste" into reusable material,
but usually for more or less the same purpose.

Upcycling, on the other hand, is reusing discarded objects or materials in such a way as to create a product of higher quality or value than the original. Upcycling involves creatively reworking a material or object to make something entirely different – e.g. taking a pair of old jeans and using the fabric to create a beautiful new bag.

It’s worth noting, upcycled materials can often also be recycled and vice versa.

The environmental benefits of upcycling are mammoth, aside from minimising the volume of discarded materials and waste being sent to landfill each year, it also reduces the need for production using new or raw materials which means a reduction in air pollution, water pollution, greenhouse gas emissions and often conservation of global resources.
